Asbestos Inspections

There are many cases where asbestos inspections are needed. For instance, you may not know if there is asbestos inside your home or office yet you are breathing in harmful fibers. Once breathed in, it will affect the lining of your lungs and abdomen. This can eventually lead to serious health risks such as Mesothelioma, asbestosis and/or lung cancer. It’s important to count on an expert to assist you. Employers and building owners must ensure an inspection is completed to meet the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation. Our asbestos inspection service includes the inspection of:
  • Kitchens and Bathrooms
  • Roofs and Attics
  • Decks, Pipes and Outside Walls
  • Doors and Windows
  • Ceilings and Floorings
  • Basements

clandestine labs hazmat survey home commercial grow ops testing

Clandestine Labs and Grow-Ops
AREC Environmental can provide assessment and clearance for buildings/homes that contained clandestine labs and/or grow-ops, and thereby ensure they are safe to reinhabit.

Clandestine Labs

These should be approached extremely cautiously.  The possibility for fires and explosions is extremely high.  These "scientists" are often untrained and very reckless when making their products.  Their recklessness often leads to explosions and fires that kill families and the people involved. Law enforcement officials or firemen who respond may also be injured or killed by fires due to explosions of meth labs.  People who live close to these labs also encounter the risk of being exposed to hazardous chemicals and fumes.  Meth labs contain a variety of solvents, precursors and hazardous agents, which are often in unmarked containers.

Grow-Ops

The interior environment of a grow operation is warm and humid — an ideal environment for mould growth.  Additionally, this moisture can cause structural problems.  Also of concern is the unsafe modification of electrical, heating/ventilation, plumbing/drainage and gas systems.

certification BCCSA COR recognition hazmat consulting victoria bc company arec

BCCSA - Certificate of Recognition (COR)

External Auditing and Large COR (for companies with 20 or more workers)

The Certificate of Recognition (COR) program recognizes and rewards employers who take a strategic approach to workplace safety and are committed to reducing the human and financial costs of workplace injuries. COR is one of a kind incentive program that encourages companies to implement health and safety management systems that exceed regulatory requirements and maintain them through annual auditing standards. It recognizes and rewards employers through a 10-15% incentive payment that reduces a company’s WorkSafeBC base assessments. This can equate to over $4800 dollars for a COR certified company with a $750,000 payroll.

To achieve COR requires companies to apply for the program, put an employee through 2 days of BCCSA Auditor training so they can implement and maintain a Health and Safety management system, and pass a series of audits. The program and training is free for member companies in our CU's; however, the cost to participate is in the time to audit a company’s operations and improve any areas identified for improvement. The cost is in the time a company must spend to interview employees and audit a certain number of sites as part of their annual audit process. Also, if you are a Large COR company you have the expense of paying for an external auditor to conduct an audit during your non-maintenance years.
